Korean population of elderly has been increasing abruptly, which has been also revealing the increasement of specific diseases in old ages. One of important and serious diseases is dementia. Dementia has not be treated well and even the reversible dementia, which means treatable dementia, is just 20∼25% of all dementia. However, it has been possible for the reversible dementia to be detected early. Thus, most of dementia are needed longterm care, due to this aspect patients with family members have to get the so many troubles and difficulties including economic burden. Therefore it has been heartly stressed the needs of care systems in socio-environmental approach. For the purpose of them, firstly, systemic network of interactions and relations between patients and patient's families would be essential and also developments with enforcements of specialized programs based on community have to be done urgently.
This review would introduce the programs of public health and wellbeing which has been enforced in western country for the elderly.
